Hara-Kiri Death of a Samurai : In the 17th century, masterless and poverty-stricken samurai Hanshiro requests to commit hara-kiri (ritual suicide involving self-inflicted disembowelment) in the courtyard of feudal lord Kageyu's estate. Wanting to dismiss Hanshiro's wish, Kageyu recounts the tragic story of a young ronin named Motome who years earlier made a similar plea. However, Kageyu is unaware that a deep bond exists between Hanshiro and Motome.
